Weeks after narrowly winning primary election, State Senator Waylon Brown resigns.

State Senator Waylon Brown announced he will resign from office, effective July 10.  Sen. Brown, a Republican from Osage, recently won a tough primary election.

Sen. Brown was a member of the Senate majority leadership team, serving as the Majority Whip. He served on the following committees, most of which are very important to disability policy advocates:

  • Senate Commerce Committee (Chair)
  • Senate Health & Human Services Committee
  • Senate State Government Committee
  • Senate Transportation Committee
  • Senate Ways & Means Committee
  • Joint Administrative Rules Review Committee

The local county Republican Party leaders will select a new candidate in the coming weeks to run as a Republican in Senate District 30, which includes all Cerro Gordo, Mitchell, and Worth Counties and the NW corner of Floyd County.   Democrat Rich Lorence is also running for this seat.
