Youth Leadership Academy

Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) is an introduction to leadership skills for youth with disabilities. The training consists of five 2-hour sessions. YLA is presented by the Iowa Developmental Disabilities Council, Iowa Department of Human Rights, Access 2 Independence, UI Health Care Center for Disabilities and Development, and Ask Resource Center.

What will students learn?

The five themes include leadership, goal-setting, self-determination, civic engagement, and social networking and mentoring. All sessions are interactive.


Who is eligible to attend?

We are offering two separate statewide trainings. One is for students ages 14-17; the other is for students ages 18-21. Each group will consist of 7-10 students from Iowa communities.


How much does YLA cost to attend?
